Virat Kohli set to resume training for South Africa tour from today

first_imgVirat Kohli’s dedication to his craft is no secret and the Indian captain is all set to set an example once more.Amidst hosting his reception in Delhi on Thursday to throwing another reception party in Mumbai on December 26, Kohli is set begin training for the gruelling South Africa tour on Friday.India will be touring South Africa for three Tests, six One-Day Internationals and three T20Is, beginning January 5.Kohli along with his newly-wed wife Anushka Sharma hosted the first of his two receptions in New Delhi on Thursday, where he invited all his friends and family who were unable to attend their intimate wedding in Italy.Kohli’s Delhi teammates, along with big names like Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina made it to his Delhi reception. Kohli, Dhawan and Anushka were also seen shaking a leg at their reception party. The rumours of his wedding went rife when Kohli asked for rest from the ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka saying it was much needed since his body has taken a toll over the last two years.”Last time I took a break, it was very difficult to handle. But my body is wanting it right now. My body has taken a toll in the last couple of years and now is the perfect time to take a rest from the game,” Kohli said after Sri Lanka played out a draw in the final Test at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla.Even before the Test series vs Sri Lanka had begun, Kohli had said that he was not a robot and needed rest.advertisement”Definitely I do need a rest. When I think of the time my body should be rested I will ask for it, why not. I’m not a robot, you can slice my skin and check if I still bleed.”Kohli was named man-of-the-series after finishing with 610 runs including two double hundreds against Sri Lanka.Kohli has been among the busiest cricketers in the world over the last two years. He had last taken a break in mid-2016 but has since scored runs across formats. In 2017, Kohli smashed 2818 international runs including 11 hundreds from 46 matches. He has been rested for the limited-overs phase against Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma will lead India in the three ODIs and three T20 Internationals this month.Kohli missed only one international match this year when he had to sit out of the fourth and final Test against Australia in Dharamsala due to a shoulder injury. He also missed four matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.Kohli, evidently has enjoyed his rare downtime by tying the knot with Anushka. But with the testing South Africa tour coming near, Kohli will be training with his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma from today itself.Rajkumar Sharma mentioned the lack of preparatory time that they have but said they would work on his batting.”We have very little time now, but there’s still a week for practice. We will work on his batting,” Sharma told Mid-Day.”Virat is very good at the pull shot and now he’s working on the cut. As a young player, he was fortunate to play on matting wickets at the academy and those pitches helped him deal with short deliveries well. That is why he is comfortable against the short stuff and is not scared of anybody,” he added.Sharma conceded that they have prepared a South Africa-like wicket for Kohli to practice and in order to face accomplished pacers like Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada, Kohli will be facing quicks in the practice as well.”We prepare wickets which he will encounter in South Africa and there will be fast bowlers to bowl to him as well. There will be a lot of preparation for the South Africa tour, but of course he knows how to tackle such situations,” Sharma told.He credited Kohli’s success to his hard work and determination and said it was his hunger for runs that made his so good.”It’s all due to his talent, hard work and work ethic. More than anything else, it’s his hunger for runs and victories that has made him such a consistent performer.”last_img read more
