Southland Cross Country Opens 2019 Season

first_imgFRISCO, Texas – The 2019 Southland Conference cross country season begins Friday with nine conference programs on the course for opening weekend. Eight schools are slated to compete Friday night, while Abilene Christian will serve as the lone school running on Saturday.Southeastern Louisiana will be in attendance for McNeese’s Season Opener in Lake Charles, La., on Friday. Both the men’s and women’s races will be held at Enos Derbonne Multi-Sport Complex, with the women’s 3k event leading off the evening at 6 p.m. CT. The men’s 6k competition will take off shortly after the conclusion of the women’s race.Nicholls and New Orleans are in action together Friday at the New Orleans Cross Country Opener. The UNO hosted event will be held at Lake Oaks Park, with the women’s 4k race set for a 6 p.m. start. The men’s 5k race will follow at 6:45 p.m.Stephen F. Austin will host the Lumberjack Opener Friday evening, where Northwestern State will also be competing. The women’s race will begin at 7:10 p.m., while the men will hit the starting line at 7:30 p.m. Both races will be held at Pecan Acres Park in Nacogdoches, Texas.In the final meet on Friday, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will join UIW in San Antonio, Texas, for the UIW Opener. The women’s 4k race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m., while the men are set to take off at 8:50 in a 6k event. Both races will take place at Classic Elites Soccer Complex in McAllister Park.Abilene Christian will host the lone meet on Saturday, as the Wildcats host the ACU Naimadu Classic. Start time for the men’s 6k race is slated for 8:30 a.m., while the women’s 4k is set for 9 a.m. at the ACU Cross Country Course.Central Arkansas will kick off their season next Saturday (Sept. 7) at home in the UCA XC Challenge. Houston Baptist, Lamar and Sam Houston State will open up the following weekend (Sept. 13) at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas.All 13 league schools have their eyes set on the 2019 Southland Conference Championships in Conway, Ark., on Friday, Nov. 1. Central Arkansas’ men will have the opportunity to defend their 2018 championship on their home course.
