Seesmic just announced the launch of Seesmic Look at an event in New York City. Seesmic Look, which is a Windows-only product, is anything but your standard Twitter client. Seesmic Looks is targeted at mainstream users who would normally be intimidated by the complexity of standard Twitter clients like Seesmic or TweetDeck. The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos Not for Power UsersIt’s important to note that Seesmic is intentionally not targeting power users with this application. This does not mean that the app isn’t also a fully featured Twitter client. Users don’t need a Twitter account to browse through Seesmic Look’s channels. If they do sign in, however, they can browse their inbox (direct messages and @replies) and their personal Twitter stream. The app also supports lists, and Twitter search and trends are prominently featured in the user interface. For now, new users can’t set up a new Twitter account in the application, but Seesmic is working together with Twitter to make this possible in a future version.Seesmic Look for BrandsIn addition to the Seesmic-curated channels, Seesmic Looks will also give brands the option to showcase their Twitter accounts in branded channels. Among the eight launch partners Seesmic announced today are Red Bull, the Huffington Post, Kodak, CNN Money and Ford. Le Meur told us that these companies are currently getting free exposure during the launch phase. Seesmic plans to charge monthly fees for these channels in a few month. Brands will also be able to create their own themes and distribute branded versions of Seesmic Look in the future. For Seesmic, this represents an obvious opportunity to create a revenue channel. To get these brands into the app, Twitter has partnered with Microsoft, which was responsible for bringing roughly half of today’s launch partners to Seesmic. Related Posts Tags:#news#NYT#Product Reviews#twitter#web frederic lardinois Guide to Performing Bulk Email Verification As Seesmic’s founder and CEO Loic Le Meur told us yesterday, there hasn’t really been a lot of innovation in the Twitter ecosystem when it comes to Twitter clients. Seesmic Look is squarely aimed at mainstream users. Instead of giving users lots of options, it tries to keep things simple. Users, for example, don’t have to decide which users they want to follow. Instead, Seesmic has created an interactive experience that is more like browsing TV channels than using a traditional Twitter client. Seesmic Look offers a curated list of Twitter accounts that are organized by interests like news, sports or celebrities. These curated channels are hosted on Seesmic’s servers and Seesmic plans to regularly update these listsSeesmic collaborated with Microsoft on this product and conducted extensive usability testing to make sure that the software is easy to use. The application was optimized for Windows 7 but will work on any modern Windows operating system.Emphasis on Design and UsabilitySeesmic clearly devoted a lot of time to getting the design of the app right and the screenshots don’t really do it justice. Depending on the mode (timeline or playback), tweets fade in and out and scroll across the screen, for example. The background of the app changes continuously and matches the Twitter background of the user or brand you are looking at. Seesmic also supplies two built-in themes: one light and one dark theme. More themes will follow in the future. As Le Meur told us, Twitter itself is also quite excited about the prospects of this app and has given it its official seal of approval. This is definitely an interesting strategy for Seesmic. Brands obviously want to use Twitter to connect to mainstream users. For a lot of new users, however, understanding Twitter is simply too complicated. Twitter has always struggled to convert new users into regular users, which explains why the company would be so interested in supporting this project. In our discussion yesterday, Le Meur acknowledges that the current crop of Twitter tools isn’t doing a good job at making Twitter easier for this group of users. Seesmic Look is easy enough to use for mainstream users and – if successful – could herald the arrival of a new crop of Twitter clients that are exclusively aimed at making Twitter easier and more fun to use. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has demanded the immediate inclusion of his State among those identified for on-the-spot assessment of flood situation by an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT).The Centre has listed 11 States that the IMCT will assess for flood damage, but Punjab does not find mention in it even though it has witnessed large-scale flooding in many areas following unprecedented rain, read an official statement. The Chief Minister expressed surprise over Punjab’s non-inclusion and has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately rectify the situation.“Surprised on the exclusion of Punjab from the list of States to be visited by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team to assess losses in flood-affected areas in different States. Request HM @AmitShah ji to direct the Central Team to visit Punjab to assess the huge losses [sic.] ,” Capt. Amarinder tweeted. The IMCT was constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in pursuance of a decision taken at a high- level committee meeting on August 19. The committee had decided to break away from the past practice of waiting for the affected State to submit a memorandum seeking central assessment. The IMCT has been mandated to visit the flood-affected States of Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala, for making final recommendations to the Central government for allocation of flood assistance to the flood-ravaged States, according to the statement.Capt. Amarinder pointed out that he had already written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek a special flood relief package of ₹1,000 crore to address losses resulting from floods in Punjab. As per initial calculations, it is estimated that the State has suffered damage worth ₹1,700 crore due to the floods.
It’s a pleasant 20-minute walk from the Southfields tube station to the hallowed precincts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club where The Championships are held. The lucky ones with accreditation badges or VIP passes and genuine tickets know they will get into the arena. But it is those without tickets and attempting to buy from roadside illegal sellers who face disappointment.Thursday was sunny for most part and there were touts whispering “tickets, tickets?” as people walked by. One of the gullible fans fell for the bait and after exchange of money in an alley walked down the long queue hoping to enter the arena. But by then, the private security on the road had already taken note of the illegal sale of tickets as was witnessed by this correspondent. The fan had not realised that even though there was no closed circuit camera, a private security man had seen it all happen. Dressed in a blue uniform, in no time the tall and black security man whispered over a small microphone to the entrance gate that a person with an illegally purchased ticket was on his way.A Wimbledon fanSadly, despite spending a huge sum, the genuine fan was in for disappointment as he was told that a ticket purchased illegally was invalid. This is one of the best parts about Wimbledon, where security is not obtrusive and at the same time works so well. If you compare it with the chaos at Ferozeshah Kotla, where people buy tickets for an ODI in black and still get away. And so do the touts.advertisementOver the years, security has become a big responsibility for the Wimbledon organisers. And that is why the campers who used to pitch tents on the pavement and virtually lived there over the fortnight have now been moved away to a huge park now. They now camp, cook, read and eat, even if they are unable to get tickets for one day of The Championships. However, the message is short cuts for ticket purchase won’t work here.Once inside the huge complex, not all can enter the show courts. With a giant screen outside Court 1, the attraction over the years, tennis fans laze on the grassy hill next to it and catch the action. It’s almost like a picnic atmosphere.Beer, wine prims and snacks are consumed liberally. In the Pete Sampras era, British fans would patiently wait to catch action of Tim Henman. It was then called Henman Hill, though some cheekily referred to it as Henman Hell as he never won the title. As Britain waits patiently for a men’s singles champion after Fred Perry since 1936, now fans hope Andy Murray can pull it off.
