‘His performance was great!’ Tottenham boss praises hat-trick hero Harry Kane

first_imgHarry Kane was the star of the show for the Tottenham once again after his hat-trick helped settle a frantic 4-3 victory over Leicester City at White Hart Lane. The striker’s double handed Spurs an early two-goal lead but the Foxes hit back with a goal either side of the break to pull level.Kane then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot while an own-goal from Jeff Schlupp restored Tottenham’s two-goal cushion before David Nugent set up a nervy finale with a late third for Leicester. The hosts managed to hold on, however, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino heaped praise on star-man Kane, who is now the top flight’s leading goalscoring having taken his tally to 19 for the season. The Argentinean said: “It was a very good thing for him to score three goals. It’s always important for the striker and it was his first Premier League hat-trick, so I’m very happy for him. His performance was great.”The 21-year-old was rewarded for his fine form with a debut England senior call-up this week, and Pochettino believes Kane has earned his international chance.Asked whether the striker should start for the Three Lions in upcoming friendlies with Lithuania and Italy, the Tottenham boss said: “Its Roy Hodgson’s decision, not mine, but I think Harry deserves to be in the national team.”Despite the positives, there was concern over his side’s defensive performance after conceding three goals against Leicester, who sit rock-bottom of the Premier League.Pochettino said: “I’m a little bit worried because you are never happy when you concede three goals at home. We need to analyse the game and we need to improve. I think that we are a team that wants to play in the opposition’s half and to always score, but we need to be more consistent in our defensive game.”last_img
