Minister slammed for slow progress on MICA redress scheme

first_imgSenator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has stated that progress on moving towards a Mica Redress Scheme for the affected homeowners in Donegal is too slow. The Sinn Fein politician has confirmed that he and Sinn Féin’s Housing Spokesperson, Eoin O’Broin TD will seek a meeting with the Minister of State for Housing, Damien English for next week.Senator Mac Lochlainn was speaking after the latest response to a parliamentary question from the Minister. Senator Mac Lochlainn said “I attended the meeting last December in Carndonagh where the Minister outlined to affected families and local public representatives the actions that he had taken since the publication of the Expert Panel Report in June, 2017. We all left that meeting hopeful that the Government would move towards a Mica Redress Scheme and that the affected homeowners would be supported by the State in making their homes safe and sound.”The Inishowen Senator said he is frustrated with the latest response from the Minister. He said “Progress is too slow in implementing the first two key recommendations from the Expert Panel Report. The Minister had indicated at the December meeting that this Summer, we would all have clarity on a resolution for the affected families and homeowners.“I am now concerned that this timeframe may not be met so myself and my colleague, Eoin O’ Broin TD, Sinn Féin’s Housing Spokesperson, have requested a face to face meeting with Minister English for next week”.
