Ranji Trophy semifinal: Cheteshwar Pujara hundred keeps Saurashtra in hunt for final

first_imgCheteshwar Pujara scored his 49th first-class hundred as Saurashtra chased 279 against Karnataka in the second semifinal of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy in Bangalore. At stumps on the fourth day, Pujara was unbeaten on 108 and had Sheldon Jackson (90 not out) for company. Saurashtra reached 224 for 3 at the close of play.Saurashtra were in trouble early in their chase after losing three quick wickets. But Pujara and Sheldon joined forces to take the fight to Karnataka. Both men has scored half-centuries in a record Ranji Trophy chase for Saurashtra last week.Cheteshwar Pujara was named man-of-the-series for his 551 runs against Australia recently. He had scored three hundreds as India went on to win a historic Test series in Australia.Pujara returned home to play the quarterfinal and semifinal for Saurashtra. His presence has made a huge impact for his state team.In the first innings against Karnataka, Pujara had made 46 before a clash hundred in the second innings. He showed the same grit he displayed in Australia as Saurashtra took the upper hand after four days of intense cricket against Karnataka in Bangalore.It will be another interesting day of cricket on Monday but Saurashtra will have to bat really poorly from hereon to miss out on a berth in the title clash against defending champions Vidarbha.Also watch:last_img
