Samsung Galaxy A80 with 48MP rotating camera, Snapdragon 730G SoC launched

first_imgSamsung at its “A Galaxy Event” on Wednesday announced the Galaxy A80 smartphone, which has so far been rumoured as the Galaxy A90. This is Samsung’s premium mid-range device that touts top-end hardware and a unique design that has never been seen on a smartphone till now. The Galaxy A80 is Samsung’s first smartphone with a pop-up rotating camera. The phone also touts a New Infinity all-screen display, a brand new Snapdragon 730G chipset and an intelligent battery, among other things. The Galaxy A80 is the most premium handset in the Galaxy A lineup this year. Samsung has already launched the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 in India, but there is no word yet on when the Galaxy A80 will reach the Indian market. At the launch event, the company also announced the launch of the Galaxy A70, which was made official just a few days ago.Samsung Galaxy A80 specificationsThe Galaxy A80 sports a large 6.7-inch FHD+ (2400X1080) Super AMOLED display. This is notably the first Samsung phone to come with the New Infinity display which sees no notch or punch-hole on the screen and ultra-thin bezels all around. The New Infinity display is Samsung’s newest all-screen, immersive display with a large screen-to-body ratio. The phone offers a 3D glass panel on the back that is curved around the sides to offer a comfortable grip. It will be offered in Phantom Black, Angel Gold and Ghost White colours with a prism effect. Without a notch or a display hole, Samsung is relying on a pop-up mechanism to hide the camera. Unlike typical pop-up cameras that are mostly for the front-facing camera, the mechanism employed by Samsung sees the primary triple camera setup rise up and rotate to the front when using the selfie camera. This means that every time you switch to the selfie camera mode, the top part of the rear panel that houses the camera setup will rise up, and the camera module within the slider will rotate to the front automatically.advertisementThis unique new camera mechanism enables you to use the high-quality primary cameras for selfies as well. And the camera setup is high-quality indeed. The Galaxy A80 comes with a 48MP f/2.0 primary camera for ultra clear and detailed photos, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a ToF (Time of Flight) camera for depth mapping. All three cameras can rotate to the front to be used for selfies. The Galaxy A80 is also powered by a brand new Snapdragon 730G chipset. This is an octa-core chipset that clocks at up to 2.2GHz. Qualcomm announced the chipset a few hours ago alongside the Snapdragon 730. The biggest difference between the two processors is that the SD730G offers a 15 per cent fast GPU for an enhanced gaming experience. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with no support for expandability. The Galaxy A80 houses a 3,700mAh battery and supports 25W Super fast charging. The device also gets an optical in-display fingerprint sensor, measures 9.5mm in thickness and runs on Android Pie with One UI on top. It measures 165.2×76.5×9.3mm.Disclaimer: The reporter’s travel and stay for this event in Bangkok have been arranged by Samsung.ALSO READ | Samsung Galaxy A80 spotted on Geekbench with key specs ahead of launchALSO READ | Samsung Galaxy S10e review: Affordable, compact and the best S10 to buyALSO READ | Samsung Galaxy A50 review: Premium features now come at an affordable pricelast_img
