British Film Week Arrives in Rabat

By Chaimaa ZahaarRabat – The British Film Week film will organize in its 2017 edition the projection of classics movies of the 1940s. After the kicking off last week in Casablanca, the event starts Monday, June 19 in Rabat.The British Film Week is back to support initiatives for cultural revitalization during the holy month of Ramadan, during which the masterpieces of British classic cinema will be screened. Organized by the British Council Morocco in collaboration with the ONA Foundation, the Orient-Occident Foundation, the association Maison des Arts, and the support of the Ministry of Culture and the CCM, the British Film Week continues in Rabat, from June 19 to 21, and Safi from June 22 to 24.Three classic movies will be projected: “The Red Shoes” (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 1948)It is a story of a young ballerina torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a star. The film is based on the children’s fairy tale of the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen.“A Brief Encounter” (David Lean, 1945)The plot concentrates on housewife Laura Jesson and her lover Dr. Alec Harvey. Although they are both already married, the two lovers continue to develop feelings for each other. They keep meeting at the railway station cafe where they met, knowing that their love is impossible.“Kind Hearts & Coronets” (Robert Hamer, 1949)A distant poor relative of the Duke of Ascoyne plots to inherit the title by killing the eight other heirs who stand before him in the line of succession.Programmed films will be screened in their original English version with French subtitles. The open air screenings are free and and will take place at 10 p.m. in Fondation Orient Occident in Rabat, and Casbah Dar Essoultan in Safi.
